Eternity in Exile
She gazed upon her lover Encased in a bed of black satin Eyelids closed, breath even an occasional twitch, a luxuriant stretch the flicker of dreams raced across his face On the bedhead the litter of a shared life tissues, condoms, books dogeared and tattered an old pair of stockings draped and dusty The photos, of them together and of each other clustered and fighting for space She leans over him now, careful not to touch him whispers “I love you” in his ear He rolls over and moans, passing through her A hand reaches out, a smile upon his face Her eyes ached to cry, a moment bittersweet her arms ached to hold him To breath in his scent Her hand reaches out, his skin ripples underneath it She extends, makes contact, breaks off when he stirs She knew it was best she leave now before he awoke She rose, drifted off towards the door Turns back for one last look She catches her reflection in the mirror, nothing more than a blurred heat haze effect. And in the dust of its surface traces a love heart and a tear and signs it “your little angel” Heaven is so lonely without you |
